2D Dating Ultrasound Baby Scan Package 7-14 weeks

The purpose of this early ultrasound diagnostic baby scan is for dating your pregnancy and to confirm the viability of the pregnancy i.e. to check baby's heart beat and check that the baby is in the uterus.  Gross abnormalities may be detected at this stage but an in-depth anatomy check can be carried out at the Anomaly scans at 19-22 weeks (see Anomaly scan) in our Edinburgh or Stirling branches.

During one of these early scans, a measurement of your baby is taken from its head to bottom (crown to rump up to 14 weeks) to establish the gestational age of the baby or babies. After 14 weeks this is calculated by head measurements, thus calculating the expected date of delivery. Additionally, it is used to determine the number of babies along with their gestational age.

The ultrasound scanning is done in a comfortable, stress-free environment, displayed in wide screen for all to see and in low level lighting to make viewing much more comfortable.

This scan includes a full Dating Scan report and 2 x A6 2D photos from a medical printer renowned for its quality and high definition complete with Babes in the Womb photo holder.  NHS scans are usually carried out in the range of 12-15 weeks but we can offer this at an earlier stage and with no waiting list, therefore reducing anxiety. For this scan we recommend that the patient attends with a full bladder.

During this challenging time, we are only offering essential diagnostic scans, from which the gender specific scan does not come under this. However if you looking to find out the gender of your baby? You can still find this from any of the current scans we are offering with the exception  of our Dating/Early scan. please note, it will depend on baby's position being in a reasonable position for us to detect, but will be more than happy to check for you, if desired.
